10/10/24 - Recommendations

  1. In preparation for the anticipated approval of expiration date extensions, PLEASE DO NOT DISPOSE OF YOUR EXPIRED IV FLUIDS.
  2. Updates from HHS/Baxter:
    1. Baxter is flying in products from other plants across the globe that have been FDA approved
    2. 1.5 million bags of Baxter product were relocated out of Florida to safe areas from the storm-stricken areas.
    3. The FDA has been approving additional offshore manufacturers to increase capacity
    4. Shelf-life Extension is likely to happen. Recommends to not dispose of expired product.  It was mentioned that those with expired product work with their supplier/manufacturer on a case-by-case basis now to seek specific shelf-life extensions
    5. Baxter is bringing in product from Canada, Ireland, UK, China and Mexico and other plant locations that are FDA approved to support supply chain.
    6. Baxter is doing 60% allocations based on ordering history for Adult products.
    7. Children’s Hospitals will get 100% allocation – with documentation supporting children needs if network or combined adult/children facility
    8. They indicated that customers reach out to them regarding needs for increase allocations, they will take on a case-by-case basis
